One Brighton construction in full swing

Brighton. Sustainable construction is progressing smoothly at One Brighton in the English seaside resort town of Brighton, according to Daniel Viliesid, the developer’s Sustainability Integrator. “The external walls and the clay blocks are all complete. 60% of the wood fibre insulation and 50% of the render is up. 54 of the 172 apartments will be ready for handover this summer. The wood-fired boiler is now on site, ready to be installed and commissioned over the next 2 months. The PV panels are installed and ready to be commissioned. The brown roof is there and ready to be seeded with tailor-made Brighton seed mix. One Gallions planning application submitted

One Gallions London. Crest Nicholson and BioRegional Quintain today submitted their proposals for the One Gallions sustainable community development for planning permission. The exemplar development will provide 260 new homes and set a benchmark for sustainable zero carbon twenty first century living in London.

British Housing Award for One Gallions

London. One Gallions announced as winner of the BHA Housing Project of the Year award, sponsored by the Mail on Sunday. The judging panel, Chaired by Michael Manser, CBE, one of the most distinguished architects of the recent decades, commented, “The [One Gallions] project shows excellent use of sustainable technology and innovative solutions towards the low and zero-carbon challenge.” Sarah Hartley, Deputy Property Editor, The Mail on Sunday, praised the project saying, “Communal rooftop gardens where residents can grow their own fruit and vegetables are a unique feature of One Gallions, by Crest Nicholson (Eastern) and BioRegional Quintain.

Award for One Planet Products

London. The winners of the “Green Oscars” – The City of London Corporation’s Sustainable City Awards – were announced last week. BioRegional’s One Planet Products initiative won the Sustainable Procurement category, in recognition of exemplary work it has achieved in making it easier and more cost effective to use green construction products for the housing industry. One Planet Products is a London-based not-for-profit social business; managed as a member-led club it enables members to specify and purchase environmental construction products, materials and services more cost effectively and easily, reducing the environmental impact of developments.

One Planet Community Under Construction in Brighton

Brighton. Construction has started on the One Brighton project in Brighton, UK this summer, and homes are now for sale. The 1st official One Planet Community to begin construction, One Brighton is a zero-parking development with renewable energy generated onsite from a waste biomass Combined Heat and Power Plant, and a “green lifestyles concierge” for residents.

Report: One Planet Living in the Suburbs

London. BioRegional has just released a new report entitled ONE PLANET LIVING IN THE SUBURBS. It examines the challenges and opportunities of creating a more sustainable society and identifies some of the real hurdles facing the UK government in its commitment to cut carbon emissions by 60 per cent by 2030. This case study focuses on Solihull in the UK, but the lessons learned, and the suggested targets for ecological footprint reduction for other suburbs, are worth a look for a wider international audience.
