About BioRegional North America
BioRegional North America is a registered Canadian not-for-profit organisation based in Canada’s capital, Ottawa. BioRegional North America is independent, entrepreneurial and associated through license agreement with BioRegional Development Group (UK). BioRegional North America operates in the United States as a project of the Tides Center, which sponsors nearly 200 social change projects nationwide and extends them the benefits of its 501c3 status.
Our work with One Planet Communities & Regions
BioRegional North America has the mandate from BioRegional Development Group to deliver the One Planet Communities and Regions programs for North America. This core work includes:
- Creating One Planet Action Plans
- Supporting & advising One Planet Communities & Regions
- Knowledge-Sharing – a set of strategic services to capture lessons learned as projects move through design, construction, and operations, actively sharing them across our network to help make our partners smarter and less likely to duplicate costly mistakes made by others in the emerging green community market.
- Design Coaching – research, oversight, and coordination with design teams to ensure that performance-based targets will be met with market-tested technologies, reliable supply chains, and innovative business approaches
- Construction Coaching – developing and overseeing implementation of a Construction Sustainability Action Plan to ensure that sustainability is embedded into construction practices and is introduced to all construction workers.
- Operation Coaching – developing and implementing a Sustainable Concierge Plan; helping develop and oversee implementation of a Green Management Plan and Community Governance Plan.
- On-going Verification
- Interactive ongoing reviews and monitoring of participating projects is imperative to both ensure that they are meeting their commitments and that they are able to benefit from the learnings happening on other projects
Consulting & Research
BioRegional North America has also developed autonomous local programs that aim to achieve Ecological Footprint reductions, and engages in non-profit consulting work and research, currently focused on:
- Winning masterplan/developer competitions
- ecoLifestyles for existing buildings
