ecoLifestyles for existing buildings
We are helping owners of existing buildings create “green lifestyle buildings” that compete favorably with more costly conventional green buildings, delivering significant reductions in GHGs by enabling and fostering sustainable behaviors amongst occupants.
In related work, for three seasons we have provided Discovery’s Planet Green channel with footprint reduction science and tactics in filming reality TV series “WA$TED”. The show provides “sustainability makeovers” to ordinary families, who achieve on average a 30% average footprint reduction.
Winning masterplan/developer competitions
BioRegional North America have helped real estate developers and planners develop submissions with sustainability strategies that stand out from the crowd, are short-listed and ultimately win competitions.
Launching One Planet Communities
One Planet Action Plans
We have facilitated workshops and the collaborative writing of ground-breaking sustainability plans for projects including Sonoma Mountain Village, Petite Riviere, the Preserve, Hill East, Southwest Waterfront (preliminary), and Poplar Point (preliminary).
On-going Verification
A rigorous process to monitor the progress of participating projects against performance targets (based on the 10 One Planet principles) annually until 2020, ensuring that One Planet Communities set the highest standards for sustainable communities.
One Planet Regions
One Planet Regions is a long-term planning framework for sustainable urban development, taking the One Planet approach city or county-wide. We work with local authorities to make an 80% ecological footprint reduction practical (and even convenient) for residents to achieve – without sacrificing prosperity or comforts.
One Planet Reno
We are working with BuildGreen Solutions on one of the most energy efficient single family home retrofits ever attempted in Canada, and providing verification. |

Communities in North America

Sonoma Mountain Village, North America’s first endorsed One Planet Community, combines new urbanism with deep sustainability in this $1billion redevelopment of a 200 acre (81 hectare) industrial site, 40 miles north of San Francisco.

Petite Rivière is a vision for the redevelopment of a 140 acre (57 hectare) in-fill site on the island of Montréal, transforming an urban golf course into a continuous park (54% of the site) and zero carbon neighborhood with commuter rail station.
