Barangaroo's spectacular waterfront site

Barangaroo is an extraordinary 22ha site in the heart of Sydney, the development of which is split into three stages:

Stage 1: a commercial and residential centre at the south end of the site

Stage 2: a low rise cultural parkland joining stage 1 and stage 3 sites together

Stage 3: a park on the northern headland

BioRegional’s potential partner, Lend Lease, will be the developer for Stage 1, responding to the demanding sustainability targets set by the land owner, Barangaroo Delivery Authority (BDA).

BioRegional are working with Lend Lease to develop a One Planet Action Plan that includes targets such as:

  • A zero carbon site
  • 75% reduction in energy demand compared to business as usual
  • 20% reduction in embodied energy
  • A water positive site
  • 87% diversion from landfill of operational waste, with a 100% reduction in greenhouse gases
  • A 4% car use modal split.

The stage 1 site currently has outline planning permission for 350,000m2 of commercial space and 500 residential units. Lend Lease are in the process of applying for a variation in the permission whilst pushing ahead with the detailed design of two of the commercial buildings with architects Rogers Stirk Harbour + Partners. Construction is due to start in December 2010.

The stage 1 site encompasses the area from Transport Place up to and including the Open House, as shown on the aerial plan below:
