How the programme works
The One Planet Communities programme provides a simple, structured route for projects to apply to 10 One Planet principles and create a place where it is easy, attractive and affordable for the people living and working at the community to live healthily and happily within a fair share of the earth’s resources.
1. Development of a One Planet Action Plan
BioRegional lead the developer and their team through the 10 One Planet principles and Common International Targets in a series of workshops exploring the context-specific challenges.
We call the resulting document of outline strategies and targets a One Planet Action Plan.

2. Endorsement
In order for a project to join the One Planet Communities network, and be entitled to use the ‘planet with a heart’ logo, its One Planet Action Plan must be reviewed via BioRegional’s endorsement process.

4. Annual Review
BioRegional works with endorsed partners to undertake an annual review of progress. This review is as much about learning practical lessons for the future and updating the Action Plan as it is a review of progress implementing the Action Plan.

5. Expert Panel
The One Planet initiative benefits from the support of a number of highly experienced independent experts in the field of sustainable development and the practical delivery experience of endorsed partner representatives who work with BioRegional and their partners to ensure that the ‘planet with a heart’ logo remains, and is increasingly recognised as, a symbol of truly exemplary commitment to, and leadership in, sustainability.
